This IS my recommendation. And a high one at that.
If you buy one picture book this year, buy This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen.
It is dark and moody. It is about thievery and deception. And fish. It is quite amusing.
I guess it kind of won the Caldecott award, too. So there's that. I also guess it is already a big deal and I am a bit late to the party. You don't want to miss the party, do you? Check this book out, my friends. Amazon has it for only $8.79 today, which is half price. So... !
I love books. I like library books and borrowed books. Every once in a while, I love buying really incredible books to have and to hold for as long as we both shall lug them. After all, those of us who hope to have a published book some day should support those who already do. Book karma.
My interpretation of the message of this book:
